Tubed

It's not always giant space worms and wise talking marsupials. Occasionally I write something a little lighter.

But then again this comic is for Yuck! And if you haven't picked up a copy of Yuck! before then you've got a lot to learn about the world!
Here's an early draft of the first page by Nikolas Leuthold. Trust me, a lot happens over the next 3 pages.

FYI: Yuck! Issues 5 and 6 just came out, which you can purchase at the link below.

I know what you're thinking but I do NOT work for Dark Carnival. They just like playing my films and we'll leave it at that. Tune in to check out my short film 'Mind's Eye'. I promise it only has a few spoilers for the graphic novel I'm writing.

Peter Pumpkinhead Preview

Here's the first preview of a completed page by Tennille Owens for my story The Misadventures of Peter Pumpkinhead.
She originally started painting the first page in acrylic but scrapped it, to go with this ink and watercolour version. It's a big improvement and I can't wait to see the 9 other pages to come.

Witches Win!

Thanks to everyone that came last night and helped celebrate my win at the Short Cut Film Festival. My film 'Witches' tied for first place with Aaron Swann's film 'Locked Up'.
The bright lights on stage helped shake the nerves during my Q&A... because I couldn't see anyone. Thank God for that.

And thanks to festivals like Short Cut, Westside Shorts and Comfortable Shorts for playing Witches over the last year.

Mind's Eye

“You look like my son’s friend. Did you know my son Adam?”
“Sorry, I’m not from around here.”
“That’s a shame. He died about a year ago.”…

That conversation seriously happened to me a few years ago. How do you respond to something like that? But that conversation sparked an idea, which I turned into a short film called Mind’s Eye.

It played at a few small film festivals; West Side Shorts, Hardiman’s Film Festival and South West Film Festival. And in May/June this year it played on the program Dark Carnival on Foxtel’s Aurora Channel and Anthology of Interest on Channel 31. Which was pretty exciting but I wanted to do something more with the idea.

That’s when I started developing my short film into a 200+ page OGN. I’m currently writing the 2nd draft which is taking a lot longer then I first thought, but hopefully it’ll be finished in a month or two so I can start approaching potential artists. Fingers crossed.

The Misadventures of Peter Pumpkinhead

Now I'm very excited about this next project. It's a 10 page submission for Velocity Graphic Anthology: Issue 2. The first issue was launched by Neville Howard in Melbourne at All Star Comics and is an absolute gem. The book features work from Australian and South African artists. So go into All Star and pick it up, if only just to read Enormous, Darker Forces and Half Past Dead (but then you'l look like that guy who thinks comic book stores are libraries. So you better just buy it).

I'm working with the very talented Tennille Owens on The Misadventures of Peter Pumpkinhead and it'll be finished at the end of this year. The two panels above are just test panels, so you can imagine how good the final product is going to look. Check out her blogspot for more info on Peter Pumpkinhead.

Killeroo: Stranded

Back in December 2009, I wrote my first comic after being inspired by one of my favourite Aussie films 'Wake in Fright'. The result was a 10 page web-comic for Killeroo. After a few script notes from Killeroo creator Darren Close and some concept sketches by Timothy Clark, the project was under way. A few road bumps were hit on the way, going back and forth to Darren's house to approve the 10 pages but finally they were finished. Killeroo: Stranded is in the final process of getting inked and lettered. Hopefully it'll be finished in a couple of months.

The preview above is inked and lettered by Darren Close but the final piece will be inked and lettered by Nathan Garcia. So when it's finally completed, it'll be up on www.killeroo.com for all to see.

So stay tuned.

Welcome!!!

Hi guys,

Instead of just hearing all my crazy rants about what I'm up to these days, you can now read it all in my new blog. I'll be putting up previews of a few things I'm working on in the next few weeks, so make sure to come back and check it out.
